Our Curriculum Return to Our Curriculum Main Page Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten!
We are always looking forward to new students joining our Pre-Kindergarten class. This pamphlet will help to answer some of your general questions, we are sure you may have more. The first few weeks will be a transition time for all of us. Please let us know if any questions or concerns do arise. We will be happy to take the time to meet with you at anytime. Our Pre-Kindergarten class function is to prepare the children for a smooth transition into kindergarten. We strive to prepare each child academically, socially, and emotionally. Our desire is to meet each child's individual needs, while maintaining a consistent standard of learning for the entire classroom. We will work on a letter and sound of the week. We will also incorporate math, science, phonics, writing skills, art, and music into our daily lesson plans. The class will also work on number recognition, finger plays and cooking activities. Flexibility is the key to working with younger children. We will be changing our lesson plans whenever it is necessary to accommodate the children's behaviors or moods. We'd like to encourage the children to cut, paste, paint, and create their own art. As their skills improve their art projects will improve. Please do not be disappointed if they are not cut in perfect shapes. Preschoolers need to be able to do their own art without the teacher pre-cutting their project. The children will learn through play, learning centers, and structured lessons. We are sure we will have a great year together. Please take the time to read the pamphlet, if you have any questions please contact any of us. Mrs. Cherie Ms. Katie Ms. Megan Things you will Need for the First Day! Please make sure you have:

About Pre-Kindergarten Field TripsParents will be informed of field trips in advance through newsletters and permission slips sent home for each trip. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to chaperone. We would like to include as many parents throughout the year as possible. Special VisitsWe encouraged parents to take the time to visit. If you'd like to be a storyteller, help us with holiday parties, teach an art or craft project, or share with the children about your career, pets, or anything else, please let us know. ToysLearning Edge Childcare & Preschool provides a vast array of toys to play with here. Please do not bring any toys from home as this causes jealousy and fighting among the children. A special small pillow, blanket, or stuffed animal may be brought for naptime. Meals and SnacksLearning Edge Childcare & Preschool furnishes breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Please do not bring snacks unless you bring enough to share with everyone. You may bring special treats for birthdays. Please ask us for our attendance count for the day you will be bringing them. Illness, Vacation, and Early PickupsPlease inform us in the classroom if you know your child will be gone. This information helps us in lesson planning, art preparations, etc. This also helps us in aiding the kitchen in the food preparation counts. Just drop us a note, call us, or tell us when you're in. Non-parental pickups will require a note from you, unless the person is listed on your emergency card. Discipline in Pre-Kindergarten Acceptable behavior will be encouraged, by giving positive verbal rewards. This reinforces a child's good feeling about their behavior and serves as an example to the children to act in such a way to receive this praise. Asking a child to stop and think about their behavior enables the child to work at self-control. Depending on the situation, one or two warnings are usually given and the child reminded of acceptable behavior. The next step would be a timeout. This timeout is not punishment, but rather a time when the child may calm down. If timeouts are not effective, some sort of consequence will be imposed. |
