Our Curriculum Return to Our Curriculum Main Page Welcome to Pre-B!
About Our Classroom We try to have a balance of teacher directed and child initiated activities throughout the day. We have set times for learning center activities and we set up writing and math activities as well for the children. The children use the computer room daily and we go outside or do large motor activities in the big room every day. Every month we will send out a new calendar of events and a classroom newsletter. Through these we will communicate any upcoming events and important dates in our classroom as well center activities. Ms. Dani Ms. Erin Ms. Judy In preschool, there are a few items that each child must have here at all times. Please be sure your child's name is written on all of the items.
We go outside on a daily basis, so please make sure to bring the following items every day:
For naptime each child must bring in a small blanket a crib sheet and they may also have a small pillow and one soft animal or doll to sleep with. We recommend that you take your child's blanket home each week to be washed. We have more than enough toys here for the children, so toys from home are not allowed. It is okay to bring a book or something to share with the class that goes along with our theme of the day. We will let you know when we are having a special day (like teddy bear day) where we allow specific toys from home. Fridays are Show 'N Tell, bring something to show then. Here at Learning Edge Childcare & Preschool, we provide meals and snacks for your child. So please do NOT bring food from home unless your child has specific food allergies. We encourage the children to have good manners and eating (Pop Tarts on oatmeal day, for example) in front of the olther children is not fair.
Child Guidance in Preschool B Sometimes, we have to redirect certain behaviors but it is very rare that we use the typical "time out". We believe that this type of guidance is not very helpful to the child, since it calls too much negative attention to him/her and in most situations children learn so much more by solving their own problems. That is what preschool is all about. Teachers are here to help the children learn how to deal with their own problems together, not to hurt their self-esteem by making them sit. Setting clear limits for the children in our class is a very important part of our problem-solving philosophy. Limits, unlike rules are flexible and may be adjusted to fit the individual situation. Setting limits helps children learn for themselves how to change behavior that is unacceptable. This is all based on a trusting relationship between child and teacher. The teacher's role is most importantly to assure the safety of each child and adult, to prohibit the destruction of materials and equipment, to assure individual acceptance of responsibility for one's actions, and to assure equal and respectful treatment of all people. Teachers set limits with children by giving them information and choices, and by using this technique we have had great success and we hope to build strong trusting relationships with all of the children in a warm and caring environment. Field Trips Due to the wide variety of trips we take, some will require parent chaperones while others will not. We will let everyone know exactly how many volunteers we will need for each trip. There will usually be a sign up sheet for chaperones. We encourage everyone to take turns with other parents so that every parent has a chance to chaperone during the summer. Please remember that being a chaperone means that you are taking on certain duties for that trip. You will be in charge of a small group of children for that day. This means that we need you to meet us at Learning Edge Childcare & Preschool at the required time to meet your group of children and to help the teachers get everything ready. Positive behavior is expected on field trips and Learning Edge Childcare & Preschool reserves the right to withhold field trips from children who encounter behavioral problems on or before each trip. Please remind your child of this rule. Show 'N Tell
If there is something questionable, please talk to the teachers to get the okay. Please note that we are not responsible for lost or damaged toys. |
