Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten (4K)!

The main goal in our Pre-Kindergarten (4K) class is to prepare the children for a smooth transition into kindergarten. Our curriculum is structured to prepare each child academically, socially, and emotionally for success in kindergarten and beyond!

Flexibility is the key to working with younger children. We modify our lesson plans to match the children’s interests, behaviors, and moods. We work to accommodate each child’s needs, while maintaining a consistent standard of learning for the entire classroom.

We use a thematic approach to our curriculum. We believe that children learn primarily through play and hands-on learning, but there is also time set aside for more structured lessons. Our room is divided into several different learning centers to provide variety and to keep the children engaged throughout the day.

We structure our day to have a balance of teacher directed and child initiated activities. We have set times for learning center activities and reserve time for writing and math activities too. The children use the computer room daily and we go outside or do large motor activities in the big room every day.

Field Trips

We explore many interesting themes in our Pre-Kindergarten class and we often take field trips to enhance the learning on certain topics. Parents are informed of field trips in advance through newsletters and permission slips.

Many of our field trips require parent chaperones and having parents are welcome to serve as chaperones as their schedules permit. There is usually a sign up sheet and we encourage everyone to take turns so that every parent has a chance to chaperone.

Special Visits

We also encourage you to visit the classroom. If you’d like to be a storyteller, help us with holiday parties, teach an art or craft project, or share with the children about your career, pets, or anything else, please let us know.

Learning Edge Childcare & Preschool provides a vast array of toys to play with. Please do not bring any toys from home as this causes jealousy and fighting among the children. A special small pillow, blanket, or stuffed animal may be brought for nap time.

Meals and Snacks

Learning Edge Childcare & Preschool furnishes breakfast, lunch, and snacks, so please do NOT bring food from home unless your child has specific food allergies or if you’re planning on sharing the snack with everyone. You may also bring special treats for birthdays. We just ask that you get the attendance count for the day you will be bringing them.

Show ‘N Tell

Show ‘N Tell is held every Friday. Your child may bring in something that they would like to share with the rest of the class. Here are some suggestions:

  • New toy
  • Book
  • Stuffed animal
  • Something that follows our weekly theme
